Tracy H. Sugg, MFA, Sculptor
From sculpting in the clay found in her yard as a child to an eight-year apprenticeship under a master sculptor, Tracy’s hands give substance to her heart’s expression. “I feel that I have a sacred responsibility to God and humanity to produce works of Beauty and Truth." Or as her artist's statement says, "...to create sculptures that reflect a touch of the Infinite." Tracy's distinctive style began with studying the Baroque sculptures of Bernini and Algardi in her personal research in Europe. As her work progressed she became greatly influenced by the sculptors of the late 19th and early 20th century (referred to as 'Beaux Arts' style in France, and 'New Sculpture' in the United Kingdom.) These sculptures showcase Neoclassical beauty with decorative elements from the rich history of French and Italian sculptors.
The importance Tracy places on continual study of artistic masters is evident in her work. Her studio abounds with sketches and books of art and artists from the past to present, as well as masters studies (sculptures created as copies of a master sculptors works.)
In addition to her vast array of monuments and sculptures for public institutions and private collectors,
Tracy also enjoys oil painting in the classical tradition, giving lectures on art history and presenting the sculpture devotional “The Portrait of Christ”.
In the midst of it all, Tracy states, "My favorite sculptures are my four children!"
